Water Consumption P12

Preparatory activities: The teacher organized the classroom, provided the students with the necessary school supplies and instructed them about the activity.

Activity: During one week, between 15.05-19.05, students from two classrooms have performed the following activities related to water consumption.

Grade 6 had the task first search for the answers to the question: How much water do you use per day? To find the answer for this question, they had to fill in a chart that measured  the daily use of water at their home. Then they had to present the results highlighting what activities were the most consuming. After presenting the results of the chart to their younger colleagues from 5A, their colleagues had to try and find answers to the question: Where and how can we save water? They had the task to find and suggest ways to reduce water consumption.

Results: Pupils became aware of the various water consumption sources and  learned how it can be reduced.

Comments: Children were curious about the matter and used the opportunity to learn something new in a practical manner.

                 Create your own water animal

                       P11- Water Creature- Romania

Once upon a time, in the depths of the ocean, there was an unprecedented marine animal. No one

knew exactly what it looked like, but it was said to be the most beautiful and mysterious animal

of all time.

Legend had it that this animal was a combination of a whale and a sea cat, with its skin covered

in shiny scales in shades of blue and green. Its huge wings allowed it to easily float through the

water, while its powerful tail helped it to propel itself swiftly in the desired direction.

In addition to its amazing appearance, this animal was also said to have a magical ability: it

could sing a song so beautiful and mesmerizing that any creature that heard it was overcome with

a state of inner calm and peace.

Many sailors tried to catch this marine animal or photograph it, but all their attempts failed. The

animal was too fast and too intelligent to be caught or noticed, but it allowed its beauty to be

admired from time to time.

Eventually, the legend of the never-before-seen animal became a story that sailors told each

other by the light of the lamps aboard their ships. Who knows, maybe this animal is still alive

and sharing its beauty and melody with only a lucky few who get to see it glide through the

water with its unmatched grace.

Czech Water Flora and Fauna

Children were first introduced to the fauna and flora of aquatic communities living in the Czech Republic. They painted the background - a body of water and its surroundings. They drew the plants and animals living together. They made collages.

The legend of the Dalghiu river

The village of Vama Buzăului consists of four smaller villages: AcriÅŸ, Buzăiel, Vama and Vama de Sus or Dălghiu. The village of Dălghiu is named from the river on the banks of which the houses line up. The Dălghiu River is one of the largest tributaries of the Buzău River, which it meets shortly after it has collected its spring waters in a single bed.

The legend says that a long, long time ago, in those lands, there lived an old and very poor man, who had no other support, than a son, named Dălghiu, who loved his father more than himself. Also at that time, it is said, that an evil dragon, wanting to enslave the people, stopped the waters in the mountain by using the secret of a spell known only to him. Now the poor man, after having no water to drink, had no more water to quench his thirst.

Today like that, tomorrow like that, the lad seeing that his old father was almost dying from thirst and not wanting to be a slave to the dragon, one day he took digging tools and climbed the mountain. He began to dig confidently that in the end he would succeed in finding a spring of water. The old father, who was waiting at home, worried that the boy was late and thinking that he could help him with something, he also started climbing up the mountain to the place where Dălhiu, the boy, couldn't stop digging.

Eventually he arrived, but old age, weakness and the cluel thirst killed the poor old man, and he gave his soul into the arms of the boy, who had his father's body on his chest, bitterly crying his pain and helplessness in the face of the merciless fate. He cried many days and nights in a row until the suffering overwhelmed him too. Their bodies, the story goes on, were turned into rocks and the boy's tears became a big and strong spring, which never dries up, bringing the much-desired water to the people.

Seeing all this, the ugly dragon's heart burst with anger, and then the mountain waters broke the barriers and began to flow in streams, through the valleys below, joining with the spring of tears, forming a river that carries its rapid waters among the peaks of the mountains, rushing to meet his older brother Buzaul and since then, people have called the river after the name of the boy, who lost his life trying to help his father, Dalghiu.

Experiment about water movement

Preparatory activities:

Preparation of the necessary materials :

- a sheet of paper

-crayons

-scissors

- a basin of water

- template for the flower

Activities:

A flower is cut out of a sheet of paper.

The eight petals are colored red and green, then bend inward along the dotted lines.

The paper flower is placed on the surface of the water in the basin. Slowly, slowly, the flower opens.

The explanation lies in the penetration of water between the empty spaces found in the paper fibers and swells them. As a result, the folds straighten, making the flower open.

Usually the water moves down, but it can also go up through the empty spaces of the paper.

 Subsequent activities:

Free discussions based on the experiment.

 Results:

Student were satisfied by the result and the practical implementation of some theoretical information.

Experiment about the force of water

Preparatory activities:

First, we needed to prepare of the following necessary materials:

- a basin of water

- a piece of cardboard

-scissors

-liquid soap

Activities:

The students filled a basin with water. From a piece of cardboard, a child cut a triangle, which was placed in a corner of the basin with one of the points pointing towards the center.

A student put a drop of soap on the tip of a finger (this operation was performed near the basin) and then inserted the finger into the water, behind the cardboard triangle.

The surprise consisted in quickly removing the piece of cardboard (the boat) from next to the child's finger, in the opposite direction.

The soap mixing with the water decreases the force of attraction between its molecules, making it possible to remove the dirt (in our case the boat) from the finger with liquid soap.

 Subsequent activities:

Free discussions based on the experiment, taking as an example the phenomenon of removing dirt from dishes / laundry, at the moment of introducing the liquid detergent.

 Results:

Student were satisfied by the result and the practical implementation of some theoretical information.
